I WATCHED A FORMER LOVE INTEREST MARRY SOMEONE ELSE~ Liza Khan

It is one thing to not have someone love you back and then another to watch the same person get married to someone else because there is absolutely nothing you can do to make that person change his or her mind. It is also depressing after a while when you watch person after person get married and it is somehow just not one of the people who can give out wedding invitations. I have watched everyone of my 'potentials' get married and it did not take me long to figure out what the 'problem' was/ is. When we are growing up we think we know what love is. The terms 'puppy love', 'high school romance', 'school sweetheart' are not uncommon. They mean certain things because they denote a phase that is quite unforgettable, talk about 'first love'. And that phase (s) stays with us. We hold on to the memories because it gave us a high and then brought us down immediately after the 'relationship' or the bond did not work out. Why are we seekin...

TO BE FEMININE YOU HAVE TO LIVE LIKE IT IS 2005~ Anjashi Sarkar

Feminine spirit needs slowness and kindness, especially to self. However, in today's culture we find two main words circling the market- a. hustle and b. dating and these two words have driven women to be extremely critical with themselves. Women are pushing themselves to compete with men in random ways, being over stimulated and engaged in stuff that make them hyperventilate time to time. They find themselves pulled in all directions, ALL,  and then there is no energy left to put into themselves, which is extremely important for mental well- being. Core values like softness is lost because now everyone wants to be like what a certain 'lifestyle' is being pushed in the social media algorithm. In 2005, or the late 90s, we did not have half the things to be concerned with like we do now. We did not have the accessibility like we do now, Instagram was still an app where one uploaded videos and not a place where controversial takes pulled your attention, made you agitated and y...

PSEPHOLOGY AND THE INDIAN INTELLECT~ AJ

The term 'psephology' is derived from the word 'pebble' in Greek. The Greeks used to vote with the help of pebbles when they had to elect a leader in the ancient times. Now that the etymology is clear, we can move to the more metaphorical use of the word. I have not always been 'visibly' enthusiastic about elections and who wins by what margin the Indian subcontinent majorly because I know my place in the country that is dominated by the likes of those who would rather operate from blind faith than pick up the Bhagwad Gita by themselves to see what is inside of it. I am fortunate that my friend circle is no longer constituted by those who think having a political opinion is useless because 'What do we gain by just discussing about who should reign or not? That is not my headache..." My political opinions do not see the light of the day most of the times owing to the minority section of society I belong to and to a religion that has the most number of ...

WHEN YOU START TO HEAL YOU BEGIN LOVING PINK AGAIN~ AJ

Colours have a major role to play when it comes to deciding your vibe or your mood. I usually associate myself with a more lilac-mauve-baby pink palette of late because of a few reasons: A. I have (recently) found out these colours look romantic on me and I am a hardcore romantic. B. I have hated anything pinkish/ orangish/ magenta ever since I had turned 12. I feel like now that I started liking the shades again, it makes me elated just imagining that I am lying on the floor with my windows open, sunrays coming in, birds chirping, my eyes are closed with my lips extending themselves as if I were smiling ear to ear--- nothing bad ever happened to me. C. I have been told pinkish shades bring out the main character in me. I mean, my face lights up and I feel like I am in movie-- that sort of a thing. Now if I start feeling like that, my confidence obviously would be off the charts. D. Another not- so significant reason is, since I have spent most of my life (teenage to late adulthood) ha...

WHY #BOOKTOK IS SCORNED UPON BY CONVENTIONAL READER COMMUNITIES~ Anjashi Sarkar

/   I remember my first stint at being a part of a book- club was back when I had freshly stepped into college and I had never been a part of one when in school. It was also because I was extremely quiet with a stammer and a thousand thoughts going on in my mind that curtailed my ability to vocalise what I truly wanted to say or convey. I wanted to major in English Literature simply because I was brilliant at interpreting what authors wrote and with what context owing to my need to know more than what was put on paper (I researched everything about them-- how many flings they had, how many children they birthed and if there were controversies surrounding them when they were in their prime) sometimes even going to the extent of pretending to have a conversation with them as if I were interviewing them. My dreams of pursuing the aforementioned course were crushed by extremely high cut- offs in the admission lists and when I had the chance of opting for an English paper as a part of m...

IT SMELLS 2009 OUT OF THE BLUE~ Lizaa Khan

I think it was a particular show on Netflix or Amazon Prime a few months back that made me nostalgic about the fact that life back in 2009 was nothing like what life looks like at the current moment. I mean, Instagram does have these amazing edits and pictures put together for reels and tagged posts, carousel posts and 24- hour stories that reek of memories that had just begun to sprung up with a certain 2016 trend in 2026. Of course, social media back then was still at war between Facebook and Orkut, the fans of the latter were still struggling to come to terms with Facebook features like pokes and hugs on each other's 'walls'.  There was absolutely no reason for mindless hate back then, something that the current social media platforms would never be able to replicate. As we proceeded into the next decade of the 2000s, we had been privy to the kind of 'trolling' that might happen if someone were to post something that did not sit well with the rest of the popul...

GHOST- SIGHTINGS: Fact or Fad? ~ Anjashi Sarkar

It is not uncommon for me to feel something eerie when passing through the popular 'haunted' places because we all agree, at least my demographic does, that Delhi in many ways has been host to he supernatural. Blame it on our childhood that had us watching the scariest horror shows in the remaining of the 90s, but the horror culture has an audience of its own. Some people I know tag the chill in the air or random noises or whisperings to be coincidences but not all seem to agree these are 'mere coincidences' rather something sinister or evil hovering above their shoulders. I come from the hills and to hear ghost stories was common and extremely repetitive at times because we all knew who the headless kid was and which nun did what, stuff like that. Over the years, the panic surrounding the paranormal sidelined as I read more on dimensions and inter- dimensional entities. Not exaggerating, but if you really should see how nonchalant I actually am, you should watch me sta...
